I am looking for names for a male black lab puppy. We don't have him yet, but hope to have him soon. So far JP's favorites are Salty and Athanasius. Yeah, I know...quite a difference. He's an eclectic sort of kid. :-)

Let's see... Some of my favorite names for dogs are Killer, King, Duke, Rambo, and Animal.
When I was a teen, we had this little (and I do mean "little") daschund/chihuahua mix that my dad decided to name Brutus. It was hilarious calling "Brutus! Here Brutus!" and here comes this little thing puttering across our kitchen.
In true Rhode Island spirit, in your case, I'd go with JP's pick - Salty (after the late father of AM radio, Salty Brine - btw, I listen to his son on 105.7, Wally Brine of "Loren and Wally" fame).

Oh, I forgot to mention, you need a bumper sticker to put on your car after that says "My black lab is smarter than your golden" and flaunt it in the ghosthouse parking lot (it's a reply to my ex-boss' sticker "My golden retriever is smarter than your honor student"). I was thinking of getting a sticker that says "My retarded domestic shorthair is smarter than your golden retriever". (LMAO)

You could always hold of on naming your dog until you get to know them a little better, that way you’ll be able to pick a name that matches their personality/behavior
