Rev. Pierre Lachance O.P. passed into eternal life this evening at 4 p.m, the 100th Anniversary of the dedication of St. Anne's Church in Fall River. He was well known in the diocese of Fall River, after having served at St. Anne's Shrine for so many decades. He was the last Dominican to serve St. Anne's Parish and Shrine.
Born in Fall River, he was baptized in the church he served for so many years. He attended St. Anne's School and entered the Dominican Novitiate in 1936.
Fr. Lachance was ordained on June 27, 1942 in St. Mary's Cathedral by Bishop James Cassidy.
After serving as a seminary teacher and a missionary for many years, he returned to Fall River in 1959. Even after his "retirement" he was often found hearing confessions in St. Anne's Shrine whenever his health allowed.
St. Anne's Parish has posted some reflections by Fr. Lachance as well as his autobiography.
Fr. Lachance, may the Lord embrace you and bring you to himself and say, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
